Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and the Gulf Coast August 29, 2005, becoming one of the deadliest hurricanes in US history with approximately 2000 lives lost, and the most costly.

On September 12 and 13, 2005, the state legislature held informational hearings which established a baseline for legislation to enhance Hawaii’s readiness for disaster. Then it rained, and the dams burst.

At this special panel discussion, Kokua Council will ask panelists to review Oahu’s preparation for possible disasters that may come our way. Find out what has been accomplished in one year and what remains to be done to keep us safe.
