Kat Brady is Coordinator of the Community Alliance on Prisons. In addition to her advocacy work, Kat maintains an email list that provides information and guidance on public safety and other social justice issues inside and outside the Legislature, and of course, on the progress of important bills making their way through the committees.

RELATING TO CAREGIVING:
Requires hospitals to provide patients the opportunity to designate a caregiver upon entry to a hospital. Establishes hospital requirements regarding caregivers, including designation of a caregiver, notification to a caregiver, and a discharge plan for patients. Provides hospitals, hospital employees, and consultants or contractors that have a contractual relationship with a hospital with immunity regarding caregiving. Effective 7/1/16.

RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE TASK FORCE ON MOBILITY
MANAGEMENT, ESTABLISHED PURSUANT TO ACT 214,

Part I: Appropriates funds for the kupuna care program and an aging and disability resource center. Part II: Removes hiring requirement by director of health in accordance with chapters 76 and 89, Hawaii Revised Statutes, for the position of Alzheimer's disease and related dementia services coordinator. Appropriates funds for the Alzheimer's disease and related dementia services coordinator. Part III: Appropriates funds for fall prevention and early detection services for the elderly. Part IV: Appropriates funds for various senior center programs. Part V: Appropriates funds to support the healthy aging partnership program. Part VI: Appropriates funds for an Alzheimer's disease and related dementia public awareness campaign.

Establishes a family leave insurance program, which requires
employees to make contributions into a trust fund to be used to
provide employees with family leave insurance benefits in order to
care for a designated person. Appropriates funds to DLIR to

RELATING TO THE LICENSURE OF SUPPLIERS OF DURABLE
MEDICAL EQUIPMENT:
Establishes a licensure requirement for durable medical equipment suppliers participating in the nationwide competitive bidding program. Appropriates funds from the office of health care assurance special fund to administer the durable medical equipment licensing program .
